How to write anime reviews people actually want to read

Understanding the current trends and audience preferences will help you gauge the popularity and potential impact of the shows you review. Readers of the blog will be familiar with the premise from my previous reviews of the work, but a quick summary is in order. Teenage girl Rin Anotsu is the daughter of the head of the Mutenichi-ryuu dojo, when her father is is murdered, and her mother is raped and murdered as well, by the students of the Ittou-Ryuu sword school, lead by Anotsu Kagehisa. Rin sets out to get revenge, accompanied by Manji – the titular immortal. However, on the course of their journey, they’ll learn that as cruel and ruthless as the members of the Ittou-Ryuu are, the forces of the Shogunate are as bad or worse.

Anime Review: Ranking of Kings

What I also appreciated over the course of the series is that the relationship between Shikimori and Izumi was stable over the course of the series. Their relationship progressed, albeit slowly, but there there was no harem, no hypotenuse to the relationship, or other form of third wheel to add that particular variety of drama to the mix. The most drama they have is with the three other friends in the group – Yui Hachimitsu, Shuu Inuzuka, and Kyou Nekozaki.

Anime Review: Breaking Down [Anime Title]

Be honest

There are characters who feel like they getmore coverage in the manga, but get short shrift in the anime –they show up, get a line, and then a fight. If the show just hadanother 12 episodes, it would have been perfect. Ranking of Kings is a show that, frankly, I missed the boat on.

Dorothy Wainwright (the “R.” being a reference to Issac Asimov’s Robot novels). Additionally, there’s a third faction outside of the Lords and the Mages called the Order of the Crest. They’re only mentioned in passing early on, and not given any real screen time until later. Considering Wikipedia is putting the series at 10 light novels long, and the show is apparently adapting the entire series, it feels like these organizations may have received considerably more development in the novels that was cut for time here. One of my favorite works of anime fantasy is Record of Lodoss War. It’s a show that I try to watch at least once a year, and due to my appreciation of that, I’ve sought out the various works by its creator, Ryo Mizuno, which have gotten a US release, from the Lodoss series onwards.

How to Review Anime: An In-Depth Guide for Anime Enthusiasts

Engage with anime forums and online communities by posting your review. Participate in discussions and encourage others to share their thoughts on the series you reviewed. Inject your personal voice and style into the review to make it more engaging. Share your enthusiasm, excitement, or disappointment, but ensure that your tone remains neutral and respectful. Paint a vivid picture for your readers by using descriptive language.

However, it has a few points that don’t quite make it work. However, the manga is still going, and I’m almost concerned that is going to mean that things are just going to spin their wheels in season 2. There are significant chunks of the show’s worldbuilding that are implied instead of shown.

Assess whether the characters’ growth and interactions enhance the overall narrative. Anime storytelling often incorporates complex narratives, symbolism, and thematic depth. Analyze the plot structure, character arcs, and underlying messages conveyed throughout the series. Consider the pacing, coherence, and overall impact of the storytelling on the viewer’s experience. Before diving into the review process, it is essential to have a solid understanding of the anime genre. Anime encompasses a wide range of themes, styles, and narratives, catering to diverse tastes and preferences.

Some readers may prefer to avoid spoilers, so it’s important to respect their viewing experience. Under each subheading, provide detailed insights, examples, and your personal opinion. Use specific scenes, episodes, or characters to support your analysis. Be objective in your evaluation, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses.

Were there any voice actors of note, and how were their performances? Including these details as justification for your review grade. Sometimes, the words top 10 movies just won’t flow – or you’re up against multiple deadlines.

Begin your review with a compelling introduction that grabs the reader’s attention. Provide a brief overview of the anime, including its title, genre, and release information. Share your initial impressions and set the tone for the rest of the review. Evaluate the quality of animation, art style, character designs, and attention to detail. Note any standout moments or flaws in the animation that contribute to the overall visual appeal or detract from the viewing experience.

This includes story beats too, although with obvious considerations given to spoilers. Sure I can't tell you exactly what it why I found the ending of Rokka no Yuusha so terrible. I can tell you that it made the previous episodes of trying to solve the mystery feel pointless when a character completely changed their personality to suit the final reveal, and then promptly revealed another character that made the entire endeavor completely pointless. That accurately details my issues with the series to those who have seen the show, while not spoiling anything for those who haven't seen it.

For the TL;DR crowd, it helps to have a short and sweet summation at the end of your review. If readers find the grade surprising, they might scroll back up to figure out your reasoning. Back up your assessment with descriptions of scenes, characters, and technical elements in order to give your opinions merit. You’d be surprised how many poor reviews discuss elements of the anime without making a clear assertion as to whether the reviewer actually enjoyed it or not.
