Card advantage in White? Commander EDH MTG Deck

Spiritual Focus Replacing your discarded card with a new one and gaining 2 life to boot, could not ignore that. There are also etched foils of a number of cards, but these seem less popular these days, as well as old border basics from fan-favorite artists like Rebecca Guay. There really is a huge mishmash of things to look forward to here, if alt arts or special treatments are your thing. Commander's PlateCommander's Plate that provides a really cheap way to give your leader a bonus whilst also providing them protection from any color not represented in their color identity. Devotion is a Theros-centric mechanic that gives you rewards for each right colored mana pip on permanents you control.

FarewellFarewell sees the most play among board wipes, which isn't surprising. It deals with one or more permanent types with absolute finality, and six mana isn't a huge price to pay in EDH. The Ur-Dragon was the headline card in one of the most expensive Commander decks ever, and not seeing a “real” reprint since, it still costs $40. The eminence ability may be acknowledged to have been something of a design mistake, but it’s out there now and reprinting the popular card with it is definitely needed. Yes, it costs 9 mana, but just look at everything it does. Card advantage, cost reduction, not to mention it’s a huge, scary, dragon itself.

Card advantage.... in White?

The first card in the list above $10, the rare printing is sure to drop its nearly $11 price tag. This is a Temur card I’d happily first pick as my commander in Commander Draft (three colors is nice). It’s a pretty great value engine, an easy three-for-one, and it can get in (and get everything else in quickly with haste) the turn it comes down.

EDH Deck Must-Haves: Cards You Can’t Skip

#39. Hatchery Sliver

In fact, these three cards occupy all the podium positions on EDHREC's list. This powerful protection spell from Commander 2020 makes the most played list for white cards, just as Deflecting SwatDeflecting Swat and Fierce GuardianshipFierce Guardianship did for blue and red, respectively. You'll certainly be laughing as your mana base doubles and anyone else playing black with other colors sees their swamp free board missing out. In our mono decks where colorless lands don't hurt us very much and the land literally literally hurts us less for our devotion to one color?

Deadeye Navigator- Navigator is one of the most powerful card in commander as it creates recurring ETBT (enter the battlefield trigger) with one or more cards. Any creature with an ETBT can be paired with this card to create a powerful combo. Look, sometimes you just need the best ETB effect in green to end the game so that you can move on to the next one. Possibly only coming in second to Sol Ring for the most iconic Commander card ever, Cyclonic Rift is an inclusion in pretty much every blue deck, and it’s quite surprising it’s currently only worth $23.

In addition to its utility it can go infinite with thopter assembly + ashnod's alter + sword of the meek for infinite life, infinite mana, and infinite creatures. A unique treatment we’re getting in all packs are “Profile Legendary Creatures”. These are only on legendary creatures and feature a striking side-on profile of some of the legendary creatures in the set, with a plain color background. They’re not to everyone’s tastes, but there are plenty of people out there who love this effect, and they’re very different from what we’ve seen before.

There you have it folks, the top 10 most played mono white cards in EDH! Would you like to see more Back to Basics content, perhaps for each card type? I've really enjoyed bringing you this beginner- or returning player-friendly series, and I'm sure we'll see each other again!

Some highlights in this section include Path of Ancestry and, of course, Sol Ring. Of course, it wouldn’t be a modern-day Magic sets with some amount of booster fun and alt-arts, special foil treatments and more! They’ve been in pretty much every other set released this year, but they’re notable in their absence in the Masters sets. Stonehoof Chieftain is another Commander deck reprint, first seen in Commander 2016. It allows your team to get in without worrying about losing them in combat, which can be pretty nice especially if you have other beefy stuff that gets better with trample. Combat focussed archetypes are relatively few and far between, but hopefully this reprint allows them to be built that bit easier.

On a final note for format clarity i will be using the American EDH banned list for reference so cards like Cataclysm will appear but Griselbrand will not. We can get him to essentially have triple P/T equal to cards in hand. Well of Lost Dreams+Revitalize Paying 5 mana to draw 4 cards and gain 3 life.Basically the same return as a Divination. Each of these produces card advantage, albeit mana intensive card advantage, but trust me, they are all worth it. Again, please suggest cards you use in your voltron decks. Feel free to tell me if you think a card should be removed from this list as well.

Honorable Mention: Enemy Battlebond Lands

One of the most cycles that players wanted reprinting was the free spell cycle from Commander 2020. They’ve all crept up in price (ok, not so much the green one), and generally have evaded reprints to this point. At $19.50, Deadly Rollick isn’t the cheapest of the cycle but the first one of this list. Exiling target permanent for free as an emergency button can save you at the 11th hour and seeing this (and the rest of the cycle) printed at rare is fantastic. Note that transmute is an ability, which only with a few specific cards can be countered / interacted with.

So many casual pauper decks decks love including this big, stupid card, and it's overall an excellent Temur commander. This little guy may seem more at home in an aggressive deck than anywhere else. In fact, its prison-style ability and low cost means it's the perfect early play in a grindy control deck.
